	<p align="left">Indiana University School of Medicine - Northwest is one of eight regional medical centers in the statewide system of the <a href="http://www.medicine.iu.edu/">Indiana University School of Medicine</a>. Located on the <a href="http://www.iun.edu/">Indiana University Northwest</a> Campus in Gary, Indiana, it includes 15 full-time and several part-time faculty, more than 120 physician volunteers, a full-time medical librarian and nine research assistants. Currently, the&nbsp;IUSM-NW offers Indiana's only Problem-Based Learning medical curriculum, the Regional Center Alternative Pathway. Widely recognized as a highly innovative program, the Regional Center Alternative Pathway embraces a clinical approach to instruction of basic sciences to medicine by exposing freshman and sophomore students to medical cases which reflect the real-life situations and issues facing physicians. <h2><em>Chronic Patient program enters new phase (now called&nbsp;Student Health Care Team)</em>&nbsp;</h2>
<p align="left">&nbsp;The <a href="body.cfm?id=5892&amp;oTopID=4962">chronic patient program</a> was&nbsp;begun shortly after the PBL curriculum&nbsp;in 1990.&nbsp; In 2007 a pilot program was begun to form a medical team with a medical student, fourth year nursing student, and graduate social work student.&nbsp; Two teams were formed and their reports on their chronic patient were well received.&nbsp; With the formation of the <a href="http://http://www.iun.edu/~chhs/">College of Health and Human Services</a> (CHHS) at Indiana University Northwest, this program&nbsp;has been&nbsp;expanded beginning in the spring semester of 2008 and is now titled "Interprofessional Health Care Team".&nbsp; The first full set of team presentations on their patient will be presented to students and faculty of CHHS in March 2009.&nbsp; In September 2009, faculty from the CHHS introduced <a href="http://teamstepps.ahqr.gov">TeamSTEPPS</a>&nbsp;, a program developed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality and the Department of Defense to provide strategies and tools to enhance performance and patient safety.</p>
