Located on the Campus of Indiana University Northwest, in Gary, Indiana, Indiana University School of Medicine- Northwest (IUSM-NW) is located in the Dunes Medical/Professional Building on the West side of the campus See Campus Map. Take a virtual tour of our facilities. Teaching space is located on the north end of the second floor of the building. A genetics clinic and cytogenetics lab is located on the first floor (north end) and faculty laboratories, offices, and administrative offices are on the third floor.

Number of Students
Currently the first year class (class of 2017) is 27 students and the second year class (class of 2016) is 23 students. We currently have twelve student in he third year (class of 2015) and eight students in the fourth year (class of 2014).

Proximity to Major Cities
The campus is approximately 25 miles from Chicago, IL the second largest city in the US. Chicago is home to thousands of restaurants, two major league baseball teams, a NFL team, NBA team and a NFL team as well as museums, theaters, two zoos and a large number of recreational areas, not to mention the magnificent shopping and spectacular Lake Michigan lakeshore. Two major airports serve this area (Midway and O’Hare) with connections to anywhere in the world.

The campus and surrounding area are patrolled 24/7 by the Indiana University Northwest police. The campus and parking lots are well lighted at night and emergency call boxes are conveniently placed throughout the campus. The campus police offers an escort service for all students to take you to your car if you are here late at night studying.
Student Organizations, Volunteer Oppurtunites and Service-Learning
Many of our students participate in the Student American Medical Association. Each year a student representative(s) is elected to coordinate the activities of this group.
Students participate in a number of volunteer opportunities such as visits by the scout organizations of Northwest Indiana. Students prepare a program on nutrition and first aid to present to these scout groups.
A large number of our students participate in Heart Day at Elliot Elementary School in Munster, IN. Students prepare and present a program about heart and cardiovascular health to the elementary students at this school.
